Catching me off guard, the door hit me and I stumbled backwards against the wall. Though his arms were still tied down by his sides and his ankles were wrapped, the man was on his feet. He hopped forward and head-butted me in the face before I had a chance to catch my balance.
Instantly, I felt pressure followed by pain. My eyes almost immediately watered and blood spurted from my nose. “Ahhh!” I screamed. “He head-butted me!”
With me distracted, the man hopped past me and towards the living room, where Jax, Holly, and Sweets all sat staring at him incredulously.
“Alba!” screamed Jax, her legs pulled up close to her chest. “He’s loose!”
Alba glanced up in her rearview mirror, but since she was still driving, she was unable to help. “Red, do something!”
“A little busy here,” I hollered as I searched the kitchen for a towel to stop the blood from gushing out of my nose.
“Mercy!” cried Jax, staring at the man as if he were a spider crawling towards her. “Help!”
Sweets and Holly simply stared at him too, apparently unsure of what to do to stop him.
The old man hopped past them all, trying to get to the door.
Still gushing blood from my nose, I lifted an arm without even thinking and fired a bolt of electrical energy from my hand just as Alba swerved the RV, trying to knock him off his feet. My electrical burst missed him and hit the passenger seat instead, immediately igniting it.
“Fire!” cried Holly, pointing to the seat.
Crap.
The man turned to look at me, his eyes wide. I could tell he was freaking out now. And if I were being honest, I’d have to admit I was a little freaked out too. I’d never fired an electrical burst of energy before. Yes, I’d levitated things, but I’d never tried to shoot anything with energy before. So to find out I had that ability both shocked and impressed me.
But I’d revealed my powers to the old man, and if he was scared before, now he was really afraid. He struggled to get to his feet again, but it was futile. Not only was he in an awkward position with his arms bound by his side and his ankles wrapped, but there was also no way he was getting back up while the vehicle was moving, not with Alba swerving like crazy.
Finally finding a towel in one of the kitchen drawers, I held it to my nose and tilted my head back. My shirt and my Converse sneakers were now covered in blood, as was the floor of the RV. I started towards the front of the vehicle.
“Get him, Mercy!” cheered Jax.
But I stopped short of him and instead turned towards the door, where I grabbed the fire extinguisher off the wall, pulled the pin, and fired white foam at the burning seat, extinguishing the fire. Then I turned and looked at the old man. “Just where exactly did you think you were going?”
The man cowered on the floor.
